Border House

Rajatalo is a project that aims to create an evolving and expanding artistic whole. It is not a traditional exhibition or residency programme, but a blend of the two.

Rajatalo comprises a detached house built in 1950 that is no longer used as a residence, along with its grounds and the nearby woodland. Every year, it organises open calls for artworks open to the whole country, through which artworks and projects are realised in the area. Rajatalo also serves as a venue for completed artworks and as a location for grant-funded work, events or artist-led children’s cultural projects. The artworks and projects are selected by a jury composed of artists.

The aim of the project is to create a dynamic, evolving and artistically diverse entity that is not a traditional exhibition, sculpture park or residency programme, but incorporates elements of all of these.

Rajatalo is located in the Keuruu Eco-Village area. The house, grounds, outbuildings and woodland are owned by the Eco-Village, but artists are free to work in the area. The condition is that work must be carried out in a manner that respects nature, and there are restrictions regarding the demolition of the house and outbuildings. Artists have access to a variety of tools, machinery and workspaces. Projects aim to use recycled and natural materials, but other solutions are not ruled out. Recycled materials are also available to artists on site. A maximum of seven days is allocated for the realisation of artworks, during which time it is possible to stay and eat at Ekokylä free of charge.

Rajatalo is open all year round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We ask that visits take place between 09:00 and 21:00. Larger groups should book their visit in advance. Guided tours of the site can be arranged on request. Unfortunately, Rajatalo is not an accessible art venue. Those with particular sensitivities or allergies should be aware of the damp damage that has occurred in the building.

Rajatalo is a joint project between Keuruu Eco-Village and the town of Keuruu.
