Herpman's Sons' Chapel

The monument to the Herpman brothers is a stone structure in the shape of a chapel.
It was consecrated on 21 July 1929.
It was built on the spot where the Herpman brothers met their end at Christmas in 1715.

Director-General Isak Julin funded the memorial chapel in the village of Ampiala, as well as the memorial on the Ketvele Isthmus. The land was donated by Toini and Yrjö Ampiala.

The memorial was built in the summer of 1929 using natural stones laid with cement; these stones were collected through voluntary labour from the fields of Ampiala and the surrounding area. The Keuruun Kisailijat were responsible for designing the memorial chapel, whilst the model and drawings were produced by District Constable Ilmari Sarkkila.

The Herpman brothers were the sons of Yrjö Herpman, the vicar of Keuruu: Gabriel, Juhana and Kustaa, who became guerrilla fighters during the turmoil of the Great Northe War. The brothers died in battle in late 1715, but their reputation lives on.
