Swimming season and safety
The official bathing season begins on 15 June and ends on 31 August. The Keurusselkä Environmental and Health Protection Office monitors the quality of bathing water at public beaches and bathing sites during the bathing season. The bathing water must meet the quality requirements set out in Decree 354/2008 of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The situation regarding blue-green algae is also monitored during the bathing season.
Rules for everyone at the beach
The council monitors and maintains the beaches regularly, but every visitor can do their bit to keep the beach clean and pleasant. Here are a few guidelines which, if followed, will help us all ensure everyone has a pleasant day at the beach:
- Please put your rubbish in the bin or take it with you when you leave the beach; please don’t leave it lying around on the beach
- Under the Public Order Act, it is prohibited to bring dogs and other domestic animals to beaches. This applies both to letting animals swim and to keeping them in the beach area.
- Feeding the birds is prohibited for hygiene reasons.
- Please do not damage the beach equipment or play with it unnecessarily; the rescue equipment is intended for use in emergencies
- If you notice any broken equipment or other hazards on the beach, please report them immediately to the beach management. Thank you!
- There is no organised lifeguard service on the beaches. Parents are always responsible for ensuring their children’s safety.
- Remember to have fun and make sure everyone else gets a chance to do the same!
