Nature reserves in Keuruu
Keuruu has dozens of nature reserves. Here we present those best suited for hiking. Experienced hikers will find wonderful spots elsewhere too, both within and outside the reserves. Not all areas are signposted, so you’ll need to navigate using a map and your sense of direction.

1. Ilovuori (71 ha)
Mäntäntie 128. Right on the edge of the town centre.

Haapamäentie 329 (car park) or 237. Just west of the town centre.
An old spruce forest on the shores of Lake Keurusselkä. Footpaths. Nature reserve. Map link, Map
3. Garrison forests (167 ha)
Kolhontie 536 and many other parking spaces. About five kilometres south of the town centre. Part of the area can also be explored via the ski trails in the sports park.
A diverse range of old-growth forests in separate areas: shores, heathland, deciduous woodland, rocky outcrops, streams and wild forests. Rich in wildlife, including the red-breasted flycatcher and the flying squirrel. The forests in the northe part are rugged wilde ess, the area around the former military base is lush in many places, and Peurunniemi offers magnificent views of Lake Keurusselkä. 6. Päijänteenmäki (22 ha)
Hirvontie 226, then onto the forest track. The forest track is not always passable.
