As a library user

    Library card and PIN

You always need a library card to borrow items. You can obtain a personal library card and a PIN code from any Keski library upon presentation of photo ID. Your first library card is free of charge. The same library card is valid at all Keski libraries.

You can apply for a Keski Libraries library card online. Fill in the application form and verify your identity using, for example, your online banking credentials. For children under the age of 15, the application must be submitted by a parent or guardian. Once you have submitted your online application, you can collect your library card the following day from any Keski Libraries branch. A guardian does not need to be present when applying for a card for a child under the age of 15. Please note that no separate notification will be sent once your library card is ready.

If you are unable to log in online, you can also fill in and print out a library card application form. This will speed up your visit to the library. Please also fill in the form if you wish to allow a child under the age of 15 in your care to use the self-service facilities at Keuruu Library (see the second page of the form),

When you obtain a library card, you agree to abide by the(you will be redirected to another service) library’s rules(you will be redirected to another service). The library card is personal, and the cardholder is responsible for any items borrowed using it. A parent or guardian is responsible for items borrowed by children under the age of 15.

If your library card goes missing, please report it to the library immediately. Once you have reported the card as lost, you will no longer be liable for any loans taken out using the lost card. You can obtain a new library card from the library (please bring proof of identity). Once the new card is activated, the old card will be invalidated. The cost of a new card is €4 for those aged 15 and over, and €2 for those under 15.

Please keep your contact details up to date. If your contact details change, please notify your library or update your details via the online library service. You can only change your name in person at the library’s customer service desk. Please bring photo ID with you.

A PIN code is a four-digit number that you can obtain during opening hours from any Keski library. Please bring your library card and photo ID with you. The PIN code has multiple uses. You will need your PIN code when logging into the online library and using the self-service library. In some Keski libraries, the PIN code is also required to borrow items from the self-service machines.

If you have forgotten your PIN, you can have it sent to your email address via the link found behind the ‘Log in’ button on the online library website, or by visiting the library’s customer service desk, where you will need to present your library card and provide proof of your identity.

    Self-service in libraries

Both the Keuruu and Haapamäki libraries operate a self-service system. Outside of customer service hours, you can log in via the library’s main entrance using your library card and PIN code. Self-service hours in Keuruu are Monday to Thursday from 8am to 9pm and Friday to Sunday from 8am to 7pm, and in Haapamäki every day from 8am to 9pm. Opening hours may vary, for example on public holidays.

Children under the age of 15 require a guardian’s permission to use the self-service facilities at Keuruu Library. To obtain this permission, the guardian and the child must visit the library’s customer service desk together. There is no age restriction for using the self-service facilities at Haapamäki Library.

During self-service hours, you can borrow, retu and renew items using the self-service machines, collect reservations, and use the library’s facilities and equipment. In Keuruu, only the ground floor is open. The lower-level facilities are closed to the public during self-service hours. You can pay your library fees via the online library and purchase printouts and books from the Keuruu City online shop.

Users of the self-service library agree to abide by its rules of use. Customers are responsible for any persons entering the library using their login details, and must not allow unauthorised persons to enter the library. You must leave the library no later than after the closing announcement and ensure that the door is closed. The libraries are equipped with CCTV and an alarm system. Violating the rules of use or triggering the alarm will always result in a ban from the library and, if necessary, a claim for damages or a police report.

    Interlibrary loans

Interlibrary loans are a service that allows materials to be borrowed between libraries. If the material you are looking for is not available in the Keski libraries, you can ask the library to request it via interlibrary loan from elsewhere in Finland or the Nordic countries.

You can submit an interlibrary loan request via the online form(you will be redirected to another service, opens in a new window), in person at the library, by email or by telephone. Important details required for the request include the author and title of the work, the ISBN number and, particularly for exam books, the edition number and year of publication.

If the material you wish to borrow via interlibrary loan is available in the Varastokirjasto, you can submit a request directly via the Varastokirjasto tab in the Keski online library whilst logged in. For more information on this and other interlibrary loan procedures, please refer to the(you will be redirected to another service, opens in a new window) Keski interlibrary loan guide.(you will be redirected to another service, opens in a new window)

Loans ordered from the Central Library are free of charge. Interlibrary loans ordered from elsewhere cost €5 per volume. When submitting an interlibrary loan request, please state in advance whether you are willing to pay for the loan. We will prioritise ordering loans free of charge from the Central Library, but this is not always possible.

If you think the material you wish to borrow via interlibrary loan would be worth adding to the library’s own collections, you can submit a(you will be redirected to another service, opens in a new window) purchase proposal(you will be redirected to another service, opens in a new window).

    Interlibrary loans to other libraries

We only lend materials relating to Keuruu and other hard-to-find titles to other libraries. We do not lend out course books or new releases from major publishers at all. We do not charge a fee for sending out interlibrary loans. Other libraries can reserve our materials directly from the online library (collection point: Keuruu Main Library). Requests can also be made by email or telephone.

    Library home delivery service

What is the library’s home delivery service?

The library’s home delivery service is intended for those who, due to old age, illness or some other reason, are unable to visit the library in person. Library materials are delivered directly to the home of home delivery service users free of charge, ready for borrowing. The service is available in the Keuruu and Haapamäki areas.

How do I become a customer?

You can become a customer by contacting the library. You can drop by, give us a call or send an email. In Keuruu, the home delivery service is managed by librarian Hanne Rokkonen, and in Haapamäki by library assistant Sanna Peltonen.

Due to resource constraints, the number of home delivery service users is limited, so you may have to wait to become a user.

    How does the service work?

Before the service begins, you will sign an agreement to become a home delivery service user. The library’s terms of use apply to home delivery service users.

A library card will be issued to you if you do not already have one. Before the service begins, you will be interviewed and can tell us about your reading habits.

A library bag will be delivered to your door every four weeks. At the same time, you can retu the books you have already read.

The delivery service covers the town centres of Keuruu and Haapamäki. For customers living in outlying areas, books can be delivered to the Lehtiniemi Day Centre, for example, to be collected during a visit there.

How much does the service cost?

The service is free of charge for customers.

    What can I borrow?

You can borrow books, audiobooks, music, films and magazines. You can request specific items you’d like to borrow.

How long can I keep the materials I have borrowed?

The loan period for all materials is four weeks. Loans can be renewed provided there are no reservations on them.
