School youth work
Keuruu has its own school youth worker, funded by a project run by AVIN, during terms 25–27. The school youth worker’s main target groups are secondary school pupils and Year 6 primary school pupils. The school youth worker’s main base is at Keuruu Upper Secondary School, but they also visit Haapamäki and primary schools. At Keuruu Upper Secondary School, the school youth work programme has its own break-time room where young people can go during breaks.
Youth Services also engages in a wide range of other collaborative activities with schools, involving not only the school youth worker but also other youth workers. Each term, the theme for school collaboration changes; there are three themes in total: relationships, mental health and substance use. The theme for the 2025–2026 term is substance abuse education. The themed campaign is being run in collaboration with other youth organisations. During the term, a variety of other collaborative activities with schools will also take place according to the annual calendar, including safety skills workshops for Year 8 pupils, media skills workshops for Year 5 pupils, a team-building day for future Year 7 pupils, and break-time coffee sessions. These activities are carried out in collaboration with various organisations.
