Course fees and payment methods
The course fee is listed for each course in the study programme. Each study group and course is charged separately. Some courses that incur higher costs than usual are priced higher than usual.
One-off lectures are free, but attending an individual lecture in a paid lecture series is subject to a fee.
Courses cannot be paid for immediately upon registration. Courses lasting the whole academic year or a term will be invoiced once the course has started. Short courses will be invoiced approximately 5 days before the course begins.
You can pay the course fee online, by paper invoice, by e-invoice, via your employer’s benefits scheme or in cash.
Course fees are non-refundable. The college reserves the right to cancel a course if there are not enough students. If you withdraw from the course yourself or fail to cancel at all, the college will charge the full course fee. A refund of the course fee can only be obtained with a doctor’s certificate.
Please ensure you settle any invoices on time! Our partner, Intrum Oy, is responsible for the collection of the City of Keuruu’s receivables. Intrum Oy will send payment reminders on our behalf and handle customer service regarding any queries. Failure
to pay will also result in the loss of your right to study.
Tax-free employee benefits provided by employers are personal payment instruments. They may only be used to pay for your own sports or cultural course fees, not for those of others (e.g. a family member).
The payment must cover the full course fee. We do not issue partial invoices, and partial payments in cash cannot be made at the office. The Adult Education Centre does not have a card payment terminal. Course instructors do not accept payments via Smartum, ePassi or Edenred.
If you are paying via Smartum, Edenred or ePass, the course fee must be paid within three weeks of the course starting. The fee for a short course must be paid no later than five days before the course starts.
However, please do not pay using staff benefits until the course has been confirmed, as we do not issue refunds.
Do this:
When registering, please select Smartum, ePassi or Edenred as your payment method. When registering online, this can be selected under ‘Payment method’.
Once the course has started, we will email you a payment link which you can use to pay for the course online. You can also use ePass and Smartum via the payment link. If you are paying via Edenred, please contact the college office before making the payment on 040 640 4694 (no text messages) or kansalaisopisto@keuruu.fi. Please also contact the office if you are paying via the ePass or Smartum app. When paying via the app, the payment must always be verified with the office.
Pay for the course using SmartumPay, EdenredPay or ePass within three weeks of the course starting. Short courses and weekend courses must be paid for no later than five working days before the course starts.
Once the payment link has expired, an invoice will be sent for the course. The invoice can no longer be paid using the staff discount.
To recap:
- When you register, please let us know that you will be paying the course fee using your staff discount.
- Once the course has started, please pay the course fee via ePass or Smartum using the payment link sent to your email address (please note: online payment is not available via Edenred; see point 3).
- If you do not pay via the payment link, please contact the college office once the course has started to receive instructions on how to verify your payment made via the app.
If you receive an invoice for the course
Once the payment link has expired and the invoice has been sent, we will no longer accept Smartum, ePassi or Edenred payments sent to us; instead, the invoice sent by the college must be paid.
If a student pays the course fee independently via a mobile payment service (SmartumPay, ePassi or EdenredPay) after the invoice has been issued, the Smartum, ePassi or Edenred payment will not be taken into account and will not be refunded. However, any amount paid in error using an employee benefit can be used to pay for another course during the same academic year. The payment must cover the full course fee.
If you cancel the course or the course is cancelled
The college will not refund course fees paid via Smartum, ePass or Edenred if a student cancels the course or the course is suspended.
If in-person teaching at educational institutions is ordered to be suspended, or if gathering restrictions prevent normal teaching, courses will either be cancelled, postponed to a later date, or delivered partly or entirely via distance lea
ing. Course fees will only be refunded if the course is cancelled in its entirety. A refund will only be issued if the course fee falls into a lower fee category based on the actual number of hours taught, and the refundable amount is at least €10.
If teaching groups have to be temporarily split into smaller groups due to gathering restrictions, course fees will not be refunded, even if the amount of face-to-face teaching received by an individual student is less than planned
Academic calendar
Autumn term: 8 September–30 November 2025
Autumn break: 13–19 October 2025
Spring term: 8 January–1 April 2026
Winter break: 22 February–1 March 2026
Minimum student numbers
In accordance with a decision by the Keuruu Adult Education Centre Board, study groups must include students who pay course fees as follows:
- Seven in Keuruu town centre. The exception is private music lessons, for which the minimum number of students is five. For weekend and special courses, the minimum number is ten.
- In Multia, Petäjävesi, Haapamäki and the rural areas of Keuruu, the minimum number of students is six. For weekend and special courses, the minimum number is seven.
A group running for the entire academic year will be discontinued if there are fewer than five participants on three consecutive occasions or on six occasions in total. For shorter courses, three occasions of falling below the minimum number of participants will result in the group being discontinued. Fees for courses that are discontinued mid-term will not be refunded.
The first session of the course is crucial
If there aren’t enough participants on the first attempt, the group won’t go ahead. There won’t be a second attempt. So make sure you’re there the first time! If the number of students is exactly the minimum required or slightly above it, the group may start, but if the course is subsequently cancelled due to insufficient numbers, course fees will not be refunded.
Credit-based courses and competence-based lea ing
You can now ea
credits for some courses at the Adult Education Centre. This allows you to better demonstrate the skills you have acquired on the course to yourself and others, and to make use of your studies in, for example, your working life and further education.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, you can ea
credits on the following courses at Keuruu Adult Education Centre:
- 110401 Craft workshop, mo ing
- 110402 Craft workshop, evening
- 110431 Woodwork for women
Ea ing credits is optional
In these and all other courses, you can continue to pursue your interests and study at your own pace, just as before. All matters relating to assessments and badges are entirely up to the participant to decide, and they do not affect your studies if you choose not to undertake them – so you can take part in the courses without being assessed or ea ing credits!
The opportunity to ea
credits may be extended to other courses in the coming years.
Credit-bearing courses are described in terms of lea
ing outcomes. This means that lea
ing outcomes and assessment criteria have been established for the course. The lea
ing outcomes describe the skills you are expected to have acquired by the end of the course, and the assessment criteria describe how you should demonstrate your understanding of the subject matter.
The purpose of assessment is to promote and support lea
ing – not to judge. Courses are assessed on a pass/fail basis. Passed courses are recorded in the national Koski database. You can view your own study records on Oma Opintopolku, from where you can share them with, for example, your employer or educational institution for the purpose of credit recognition. Go to the Oma Opintopolku service (opintopolku.fi).
If you wish to receive credits for the course, please inform the teacher of your intention before the course begins. The teacher will provide you with instructions on what is required of you to receive a pass.
In order for us to record your study achievements in the national Koski information system, we require your written consent. The consent form will be signed during the first course session. Please bring proof of identity with you. Consent for a minor student must be given by their guardian.
You can also take the course without receiving a grade. If, during the course, you decide that you do not wish to receive credits for the course, please inform the teacher.
