Guidance on starting early years education
Parents and carers will be notified of the allocation of a
place in early years education via eDaisy. Log in to eDaisy. Parents and carers are asked to contact the staff of their child’s group by telephone to arrange a visit to the early years education centre and to discuss the start of attendance.
Introduction and initial discussion
- Before the child actually starts early years education, we hold an introductory meeting with the parents or carers to hear their thoughts about their child and their wishes regarding early years education. During the meeting, parents or carers will also receive information about the day-to-day routine and practices of early years education. Guardians may attend the meeting without their child.
- Parents agree with the group’s staff on a suitable number of taster visits, during which the child can get to know their future group and the group’s staff.
- Taster sessions last between 1 and 3 hours and are usually held in the mo ing. A parent or guardian must be present and is responsible for their child during this time.
Reporting early years education hours
- Parents and carers should specify the early years care times they require in DaisyFamily. Instructions for booking care times in DaisyFamily
- Using Daisy’s diary, both parents and staff can keep track of the hours worked.
- Children’s meals are ordered for the nursery and staff shifts are planned based on the booked early years care slots.
What should you bring to early years education?
- Enough spare clothes (socks, underwear, a change of clothes, including warm clothing)
- Separate indoor and outdoor clothing (especially in warm weather)
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing, as children in early years education usually go outside whatever the weather.
- Indoor slippers or shoes
- Your own nappies, dummies and comfort toys
- As a general rule, a child’s medication is administered at home, but if necessary, prescribed medication can be brought to the nursery if the child’s condition requires medication during the day. In such cases, a written medication plan is drawn up for the child. For more information on the administration of medication, please refer to the city’s early years education medication plan.
The child’s early years education plan
In Keuruu’s early years education, a discussion regarding a child’s early years education plan takes place two months after the child starts. The plan is usually drawn up by the group teacher in consultation with the parents or carers and is recorded in Daisy, where parents or carers can also access it. If necessary, a special needs teacher and other support staff also participate in drawing up the plan.
