Morning and afternoon programs provide children with a familiar and safe environment supervised by adults. These programs are based on a child-centered approach, promoting participation, fostering equality, and preventing social exclusion.

    Objectives of the activities

    In accordance with the legislation gove ing mo ing and afte oon activities and the guidelines issued by the National Board of Education, the overall aim of these activities is to support pupils’ holistic well-being and healthy development, and to lay the foundations for positive growth. The aim of the activities is to develop structured, high-quality and safe lea ing and growth environments for pupils before and after the school day, and to ensure the presence of an adult. These activities reduce the time pupils spend alone, prevent social exclusion, promote equality in society and enhance safety.

    The aim of the programme is to offer pupils the opportunity to take part in supervised, invigorating and safe activities. The activities provide an opportunity for rest and relaxation in a peaceful environment, under the supervision of professional and trained instructors. The activities are high-quality leisure pursuits that emphasise voluntary participation and positive experiences.

    Target group and action plan

    In Keuruu, mo ing and afte oon activities for schoolchildren are offered to all pupils in Years 1 and 2, as well as to pupils in Years 3 to 5 who receive individual support in accordance with Sections 20c and 20i of the Basic Education Act.

    Activities are organised in accordance with the action plan approved by the Growth and Wellbeing Committee (last updated on 21 January 2026).

    Applying for mo ing and afte oon activities

    Mo ing and afte oon activities are intended for pupils in Years 1 and 2, as well as for pupils in Years 3 to 5 who receive individual support in accordance with Sections 20c and 20i of the Basic Education Act, and for pupils with intellectual disabilities. The City’s Growth and Wellbeing Committee decides on the organisation and scope of the activities.

    Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year

    You can also apply for a place during the current term. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and a place will be offered if there is still space available in the group.

    Places for mo ing and afte oon activities are not carried over to the following academic year; instead, applications for these activities must be submitted for each academic year during the application period in the preceding spring.

    Activities take place on weekdays from Monday to Friday. Please check the venues for specific times.

    Summer Club for Schoolchildren 2026

    The City of Keuruu is organising summer club activities from 1 to 18 June for pupils in Years 1 and 2, and, where necessary, for pupils in Years 3 to 5 who have been granted special educational support. Children from outside the municipality may also take part if there is space in the group. The maximum group size is 30 children.

    The summer club is based in the premises used for mo ing and afte oon activities for schoolchildren at Keuruu Primary School (Kivikoulu), located at Keuruuntie 18. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am–2.00 pm.

    Summer club prices:

    • Week 23 (1–5 June 2026) €60 per week
    • Week 24 (8–12 June 2026) €60 per week
    • Week 25 (15–18 June 2026) €50 per week

    The price includes lunch in the Kivikoulu canteen, insurance, and activities at Kivikoulu and on excursions in the local area.
