Music play school and instrument tuition

Groups for babies and toddlers, taught by Tiiu Tuominen. The goal of the music class is to create a safe environment for spending time together and to strengthen the bond between child and parent through music. In the instrument training, the skills previously learned in music class are further developed through singing, playing instruments, moving, listening, and improvising.

Each session lasts 45 minutes; for babies and toddlers (0–2 years), 30 minutes.

In groups for children under 3, music-making is still done together with parents, godparents or even grandparents; children over 3 gradually start attending lessons without their parents. For the group to function effectively, it is recommended that there be at least five pupils, but no more than eight.

The introductory music course provides an introduction to the basics of playing the kantele and ukulele, as well as an introduction to other instruments taught at the music school. The course equips children with the skills needed to study an instrument at the music school and to play together with other children. As an alte ative to group lessons, instrumental preparation is available as a 15-minute one-to-one lesson.

    Presentations by different age groups

For babies aged 3–10 months and their parents.

The aim is to enjoy a sense of togethe ess and to strengthen the bond between mother and child through music. The music class provides children and parents with experiences and songs for everyday activities at home and for singing sessions.

Let’s enjoy music and colours. Let’s get used to the surroundings, sounds, and other children and adults. Let’s become aware of our own bodies. Let’s explore percussion instruments and experience the rhythm of music by moving with mum or dad, for example by dancing, rocking and swaying. We encourage the baby to use their own voice and sing lots of nursery rhymes. We support the baby’s developmental stages (crawling, creeping, standing up, walking, etc.) with the help of music.

Children aged 1–2 come to music class with their mum or dad, granny, grandad or even a godparent.

The group involves plenty of movement and explores musical concepts (such as the pairs ‘quiet–loud’ and ‘slow–fast’) through movement, singing and playing instruments. We practise working as a group and developing social skills. Singing supports the child’s speech development and expands their vocabulary. We sing familiar and new songs over and over again, as children enjoy repetition.

Muskari offers memorable experiences, positive musical encounters and a warm sense of togethe ess.

As well as singing and movement, we play percussion instruments, recite nursery rhymes, listen to music and liven up the sessions with activities that inspire the children, such as balls, a play parachute, scarves and hand puppets.

In a safe and supportive environment, children are encouraged to express themselves through various musical means. They are given the opportunity to create, experiment and experience a sense of achievement through playful activities.

Music classes often feature a story that allows children to make music and draw on their own creativity and imagination.

We play rhythm and melody instruments, sing, move around and listen to music. We practise waiting for our tu , listening to others and other social skills needed for group work. We lea the basic concepts of music in a holistic way through movement, singing and playing instruments.

Hand puppets, rhythm circles, balls, scarves, feathers and the like add an aesthetic touch and make the sessions more engaging.

We build on the skills already lea t in music classes by singing, playing instruments,
moving, listening and improvising. We practise developing a shared sense of rhythm within the group and explore basic music theory using body rhythms and rhythm cards. We develop the child’s musical expression and support the growth of their personality. We emphasise interaction and lea ing by doing.

During the school year, pupils will focus more closely on a few instruments such as the kantele, recorder, piano or ukulele, whilst also playing a variety of other percussion instruments. In addition, they will be introduced to various instruments (e.g. violin, cello, piano, guitar, flute, etc.) through instrument presentations.

The child will also gain the skills needed to study an instrument at a music school.
